Belief Revolution

Each of us. You. Me. The whole world, good and bad, we are who we are - and where we are - because what we believe. And, if you don't like where or who you are, there's only one thing that can help. It's time for a revolution; a Belief Revolution.

The definition of Revolution: a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system.

Take for example, the birth of the women's movement.

You Say We Need a Revolution, Well You Know...

In the beginning of the modern era, the rights of women were squelched by society. In traditional societies, women were treated as little more than property. As a result, in 1848, women gathered to create a Declaration of Rights and Sentiments. The originators the document fashioned largely on the Declaration of Independence. Why? Because they decided to "overthrow social order in favor of a new system."

Now, before you become alarmed, this is not a political piece on women's rights. I've merely used an example most recognize. I could easily select human rights of any type, so rest easy.

Why a Belief Revolution

Faith and belief intertwine. We need faith to believe. Yet, without belief it is hard to have faith.

Many things in our every day life require absolutely no faith or belief.

Light exists. Period. Gravity exists. Period. Air exists. Period.

But, suppose you are born blind. Could anyone ever prove to you that light exists?

What if you live in space? How can you learn to operate with gravity if you don't experience it?

You never need proof of breathable air, until you can't get enough oxygen during exercise, or  experience a lung disease.

My point here, is that people don't change unless a need shows up. We don't make a mindset shift unless someone proves to us our need. Heck, Lovely - if we weren't taught to bathe and shower, we'd wallow around in our own filth.

I'd be bold enough to say that 99% of our daily life is centered around practices, beliefs, and attitudes we have learned. When we feel stuck, uninspired, depressed, doubting or constantly unfocused, it's likely we need a Belief Revolution. And, the only way to experience the change we want, is to uncover the practices, beliefs and attitudes that don't serve us.

Signs You Need a Belief Revolution

No matter which area of life you want to change, I'm a big believer your environment will tell you what you need.  For instance, if your clothes don't fit, there's likely a need to change your belief about late night snacks (or my favorite, nachos.) If you get winded on a walk through the park, barring disease issues, you probably need a revolution in how you view exercise.

Dan Harris, of ABC News, created a revolution with the concept that when you are 10% Happier you experience less stress. It took a panic attack on live television for him to come to that realization. Hopefully, your situation isn't as drastic.

Your life is screaming at you for change! It may not even be a drastic change. Yet, even a slight shift can transform everything.

Do any of these sound like you?

  • Activities you once enjoyed no longer excite you.
  • Your day to day life feels monotonous or boring.
  • You question your purpose, your actions, and/or your direction on a regular basis.
  • People around you irritate you more than inspire you.
  • You criticize yourself more than encourage yourself.
  • You go to bed exhausted, and wake up the same way.
  • When you think of the future, it doesn't excite you.
  • It's hard to see the value of what you do each day.

These feelings (or lack of them) can be triggered by any number of factors, including clinical depression. And by all means, if you are depressed, please see a licensed health care practitioner. However, for the majority of us, they are simply a sign we have given up and given in to the status quo. Instead, make an intentional choice to create a life which excites you.

The Belief Revolution Blueprint

Transformation isn't easy. Anyone who says it is, well, they are big ol' liars. It requires the death of one thing, in order to birth another.

You must let go of where you are to go to a new place. One foot in yesterday keeps you planted in regret, if-only and what-if.

Whether you're on a journey to create a business that spans the globe, a ministry that transforms a nation, or a plan to lose 10 pounds, it all begins with the Belief Revolution Blueprint. Are you ready?

Listen

Listen to your heart's desires. Identify the whispering call of your spirit man. Bend your inner ear to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Dare to hope for something more and believe it is possible. Give yourself Permission to Dream and to Change.

"Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, "This is the way you should go," whether to the right or to the left."" Isaiah 30:1`

Acknowledge

Next, give yourself Permission to Celebrate all that is unique and fabulous in YOU. You have natural talents, spiritual gifts and a personality which sets you apart from every other person. You've learned skills and have developed abilities unlike any other person in the universe. Celebrate with David in Psalm 139:14:

"Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous--how well I know it."

Move Forward

Probably, for many, this step in the Belief Revolution Blueprint is the most challenging. It is time to let go of what is behind you and move forward. Most of all, it is vital to give yourself Permission to Release: the past, others and yourself. Yet release doesn't come without a measure of sadness, no matter how ready we are for change. Give yourself Permission to Grieve.

The Apostle Paul tells us his philosophy in Philippians 3:13:,

"But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead..."

Break Through

David calls the Lord God the MASTER of BREAKTHROUGHS in 2 Samuel 5:20

Now, you are ready to create a road map and strategy for your future. You did the work. You moved through the steps. What will you do with the transformation you've achieved? Give yourself Permission to Learn and to Live.

As a result of the Blueprint, you have identified areas that may need a bit more structure. This is your challenge to continue your education. Do you want to be a writer? Take a course. Are you ready to give that Signature Speech but don't know how to get started? Enroll in a class. Do you want to ride horses on your dream vacation. Invest in a tutor.

More than all, it is time to LIVE your life, rather than coasting through the days. You only get one life on this earth. Make it count.
