Women - Sisters, we know that all it takes is a bad hair day and everything seems to go downhill.
Yet, let our bangs go wonky and the whole day just feels shot. Here we are: intelligent, in-control, loving, strong, powerful women. We would rather hide around the corner than stand firmly in control of the meeting.
Today, let's talk about how our crazy-hair, bad-hair is a symbol for crazy-hair thoughts.
I'm in the middle of a bad-hair month. Because my short, platinum hair is slowly growing out to shoulder-length light blonde, it feels like I have a helmet on my head. And adding insult to injury, my roots are the color of some obscure artist's palette concoction. I really don't know what color they are: kind of orange-kind of brown-kind of blonde. Some days, I have a distinct feeling I look a bit like a hyena.
Bad Hair and the Thoughts in Our Head
Do you remember the story of the Ugly Duckling's transformation into a Beautiful Swan. In nature, it's just the way things happen. There's not any real agony for the duckling; normal itchiness as the feathers fall out to make way for the new ones.
Yet in the story, the little "ugly duckling" aches to be accepted and approved. Fairy tale wisdom says to ignore the barbs, because "they" will be sorry some day. I don't know about you, but the hurtful words I've heard didn't just evaporate when I had a good hair day.
In fact, like little assassins, those words wait to bring me to my knees on a bad hair day, or a disappointing product launch, or a neglected opportunity to hang out with people I admire. They line up in formation to remind me of every time I failed or faltered, assuring me that this is just one more time in a list of hundreds more to come.
Right there and then is when I - you - we decide if we will be laid low by the barrage of thoughts and images. As a result, we must take decide to take control of those bad-hair-day thoughts BEFORE they turn into a life sentence.
Run the Race to Win
The Bible tells us to gird up the loins of our mind.
In ancient times, both men and women wore robes. In order to move quickly and efficiently, the back edge of the robe was pulled up through the legs and tucked into the belt. Voila' - shorts! Now they are ready to run.
Our plan to win the race to create a life and business that is purposeful and profitable, requires we tuck up those thoughts that are trying to shoot us down. We must wrap up all of those mad-scientist looking locks and run with clarity and skill.
So think clearly and exercise self-control. " 1 Peter 1:13
It is time to take all of those stray thoughts that trip us, trap us and trick us - and tuck them into the truth of who we truly are in Christ.
Tuck up your crazy-hair thoughts and get ready to run your own race.
As Christian business women, our crazy-hair thoughts keep us from living our purpose and calling to our fullest potential. Whether the thoughts are our own life-long doubts, the words of others that whisper through our day, or the voice of the enemy which seeks to stop our holy progress and pursuit - we MUST fiercely capture the thoughts and put them away. We don't passively win the war. We aggressively take a stand.
We are challenged to take every thought captive.
About 80% of the thoughts you think today will be exactly the same thoughts you had yesterday. THINK ABOUT THAT! The old saying that the definition of insanity is thinking we can do the same things over and over yet get different results is absolutely true! It's no wonder that today looks just like yesterday. And the day before. And the day before.
How in the world do we expect to live a more engaged, purposeful, profitable life if we never change our thoughts about who we are or what we are capable of accomplishing? What thoughts are holding YOU captive? What thoughts do you need to tuck up under the truth?
As we think - so we are. What are you thinking?
I'm on a mission to empower Christian women - and in particular entrepreneurs - to think in new ways. I want to empower you to have a Belief Revolution that will transform your day to day life. I want you to create the legacy-life you are meant to create.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever wins respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovable, whatever is of good repute--if there is any virtue or anything deemed worthy of praise--cherish the thought of these things." Philippians 4:8 Weymouth
