Why is it so hard to believe that we are marvelous?
We are quick to admit to the magnificence of buildings and bridges conceived in the minds by men. Artwork that takes our breath away is genius. We applaud and award film makers, actors and musicians for their creativity. Allies and enemies alike revere a strong leader.
What about the every day, common woman. Who applauds her? Who recognizes her genius? Who declares her magnificence?
In Psalm 139, David begins by declaring the majesty and power of God. He says that God knows EVERYTHING there is to know about him. He speaks at length about the Ever Present, Ever Powerful, Ever Mindful God – the King he worships.
Modern society considers a person who begins to talk about how great they are, as arrogant, smug, prideful. And, if a WOMAN ever does, well… just who does she think she is?
Yet, here he is, the man after God’s own heart, thanking the Lord, for making HIM wonderful!
Then in verses 13-18, David does an incredible thing! He begins to declare HOW WONDERFUL HE IS, because of the WAY God made HIM!
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in Your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
17 How precious are Your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up, You are still with me!
For a few moments today, I would like for you to do one thing.
Read these verses as if YOU had written them.
Think about the great love the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth has for YOU. Think about the incredible complexity of your life. Consider that your life isn’t some empty, path-less escapade in the great scheme of the universe.
YOU are WONDERFULLY COMPLEX. You are MARVELOUS, because HE only makes marvelous works.
Your life is recorded, noticed, important.
The Lord Himself has so many good thoughts about you that they are IMPOSSIBLE TO COUNT.
And, even when you fall into your bed at night from exhaustion, HE keeps close guard and watch over you.
There is no one else like you. And that is a MARVELOUS, WONDERFUL thing.
Live Inspired! Live At Your Best!
