Expectations and Your Future

It's tricky to have high expectations.

A cursory search of quotes about expectations and you'll discover the most prominent ones counsel to stop expecting anything and you'll never be disappointed. As a perpetual optimist, that attitude makes me sad.

However, in my recent search I found two that make more sense.

“Treat a man as he is and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he can and should be and he will become as he can and should be.” ― Stephen R. Covey.

“Positive expectations are the mark of the superior personality.” ― Brian Tracy,

People will disappoint, and we don't always achieve our highest goals. However, without the belief in the best of people and the possibility of reaching the pinnacle, why even try?

Are you surrounded by people with limited vision and hope?

Or are YOU the one with limited vision and hope? Are you like Eeyore?

Winnie the Pooh cheerily greets him, “Lovely day, isn’t it?”

Eeyore's response? “If it is a good morning, which I doubt.”

It takes work to keep a positive outlook when you find yourself in a slump.

If you want to have higher expectations for your future, there are a few things you can do, starting today.

  • Surround yourself with positive, encouraging people.
  • Create a daily habit of declaring the promises of God over your business and life.
  • And most importantly, DECIDE to look for the positive in each situation.
  • Allow yourself to soar above the circumstances and realize that a bad day is temporary, but a poor attitude can lead to destruction of your hopes and dreams.
