Your Breakthrough is One Shift Away

Barriers to breakthrough have built their home in your thinking, Lovely One. Mine, too. We all need a breakthrough in at least one of the main areas of life: spiritual, mental, physical, emotional, and relational.

King David called the Lord the 'master of breakthroughs" in 2 Samuel 5. After David had been anointed as king, his enemies, the Philistines, came after him. But God delivered him. And the Lord wants to deliver you completely from all of your enemies, too.

In my last article on Mindset Traps, I talked about the truth that we view our entire world through our perceptions and reasonings. I call that the "Reasoning Box" and it's the initial conversation I have with women when we are discovering just what has them stuck or stagnant. We develop those reasonings to protect ourself from more pain or disappointment. And they've done a wonderful job... until now. These Reasonings become a barrier to breakthrough.

Now, your heart is hungry for breakthrough. And for breakthrough to happen, a shift has to occur. And that shift will only occur when your perceptions change because of revelation.

REVELATION: A moment of deep understanding or clarity.

Why Revelation is a Key to Breakthrough

If you always do (and believe) the same thing, you'll always have exactly what you have now.

Revelation is a catalyst that comes to shake the foundations of our belief. It shifts our perception of identity and purpose. We have only two choices. Accept it as truth or reject it as invalid. It holds up our barriers to breakthrough to the light of truth.

Here is the beautiful thing about revelation... it uncovers. It opens up to show the heart. Like a flower blooming. Or that steamy, flaky biscuit. Or the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

In its simplest form, picture a child who only knows how to roll around on the floor. One day, it's scooting on its tummy and the next she's crawling through the table legs. And then suddenly up and running.

Revelation and breakthrough are like that. To coin a phrase from The Chosen, I was one way, and now I am another.

Each area of our life screams for growth, expansion and more freedom. The enemy tells us freedom is one thing. The Lord proves it is another.

When REVELATION occurs, we see the core reason we believe what we believe - and - how it is affecting us.

5 Common Barriers to Breakthrough

I've identified five common roadblocks to lasting transformation and freedom. These barriers are like the Red Sea in front of the escaping Israelites. They can seem impossible to overcome. They look like the massive Philistine army in the Valley of Rephidim, aligned against David. But when the Lord speaks, victory is assured. And when He speaks, the barriers to breakthrough crumble like the walls of Jericho.

  • Fear of Change
  • Deep-Rooted Beliefs
  • Overwhelming Anxiety or Stress
  • Distrust or Skepticism
  • Lack of Clarity or Focus

How Do We Bulldoze the Roadblocks?

First, to receive the breakthrough you want, surrender is key. To have the willingness to examine what is against what could be. And to know that the Lord has a path... fashioned just for you. He knows exactly the process to bring you out to liberty. Renewing your mind is the foundation, but it's also an ongoing process. Our goal is to stay in alignment with God's word. We do this by staying committed to prayer, scripture, and capturing our thoughts to make them line up with truth.

Step One: Recognize that lies and misconceptions are often rooted in limiting beliefs.

Step Two: Realize your true identity is found in who GOD says you are, not your past mistakes, failures or labels.

Step Three: Identify the source of your negative thought patterns.

Step Four: You can't control every circumstance, but you can control how you perceive it and respond to it.

Step Five: Trust that God is actively involved in your life, even when it doesn't make sense.

Perceptions and Breakthrough

Our perceptions govern how we see the world. And revelation requires a shift in these perceptions.

Do any of these sound familiar? They could be a reason you feel stuck or stagnant in your faith and life.

  • "I'm not enough." "I must have done something wrong for this to happen."
  • "Everything is out of my control." "I am powerless to change my situation."
  • "This is a failure, and it defines my future."
  • "God has abandoned me."
  • "I am weak. There's no way I can handle this."
  • "I don't know if I can ever be happy again."
  • "I don't know who I am now without my (spouse, child, job, etc.)"
  • "I don't have any purpose! I don't know where to go from here."
  • "It's too late for me to start over or go after my dreams."
  • "I am to blame for this. I just can't forgive myself."

REFRAME

But the Lord has a different word for you! By REFRAMING your perceptions through His revelation, you can walk in more freedom than you ever thought possible.

  • "I'm not enough." "I must have done something wrong for this to happen." My worth is not determined by my circumstances but by who the Lord says I am!""
  • "Everything is out of my control." "I am powerless to change my situation."God is in control, and I can choose how I respond, knowing He is guiding me every step of the way."
  • "This is a failure, and it defines my future." This experience is just a step in my journey, and the Lord even uses my setbacks for His purpose."
  • "God has abandoned me." God is always with me, even when I don't feel it. He is working things out for my good.
  • "I am weak. There's no way I can handle this." In my weakness, the Lord's strength is made perfect. He empowers me.
  • "I don't know if I can ever be happy again." My future is held in the Lord's hands. He has plans to give me a future and a hope.
  • "I don't know who I am now without that (spouse, child, job, etc.)" My identity is rooted in Christ, not my circumstances, titles or roles.
  • "I don't have any purpose! I don't know where to go from here." The Lord is constantly refining and defining my purpose. He will reveal the next step.
  • "It's too late for me to start over or go after my dreams." The Lord's timing is perfect. It's never too late to walk in the path He has for me.
  • "I am to blame for this. I just can't forgive myself." I am forgiven and redeemed by the Lord. I can give that same forgiveness and grace to myself.

Some Simple Tools to Help You

You might be saying, "Ok Donna. That all sounds great. How do I do that?"

Why, Sister! Here's an answer or two. 🙂

One: Practice catching your negative thoughts and replacing them with positive, truthful statements. Your brain will fight you with cognitive dissonance. But keep at it.

Two: Practice self-kindness. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to a friend. It helps you create a healthier self-image.

Three: Pay attention to when and where negative thoughts show up. Catching the patterns helps you catch and redirect the beliefs.

Four: Reframe! Ask yourself, "what's another way to look at this?" It helps you go from feeling stuck to empowered.

Five: Gratitude Journaling. The simple power of gratitude can shift everything.

Six: Practice, practice, practice. As you practice these habits, they become easier.

SEVEN: Schedule a Clarity Call with Donna 🙂
